The Love of Money IsThe Root Of All Evil or The Route To All Evil
70Righteous Indignation
‘‘Righteous Indignation is rarely more justified, than when it is a response to gross hypocrisy’’
(Julian Baggini)
Back in the early days of ‘The Credit Crunch’, some of the smug bankers, steeped in dishonest banking practises, from behind the well guarded doors of the Great banks, were being rolled out- for their few moments of disgrace- then, disappeared just as quickly, into the ether.
Those of us , as is now evident, who are paying the piper, were neither consulted on- how best to clear up this mess, caused by delinquent banking-nor were we listened to, as the bills for keeping these institutions going , were being presented in different forms. These bills take many forms, and all of them are bad. Excessive government borrowing ,that will be a burden on our children, cutbacks in public services ,and increased taxation on businesses and on families- who are keeping the economy (just about) afloat. None of this makes any sense
It Makes The World Go Round.
Silly Them!
None of the bankers –to date – has been ‘held accountable’ (nice sterile word). If ever they are, it will no doubt be after years of expensive (taxpayer again ), and protracted investigations, into how this dreadful mess happened –or more likely-how on earth they were found out!
That’s it really isn’t it-they were found out. Silly them!
The so-called guardians of our financial system and our governments -screwed up. There is such a lack of proportionality and fairness about it all.
Root/Route?
I recently walked into a Newsagent’s shop , and while waiting in the queue, I was scanning the headlines of the various newspapers on display. On one tabloid paper, I spotted a front page article headed ‘Social Welfare Fraudster Jailed For Three Months’-the ‘fraudster’ ,an unemployed father, had over a period of a couple of years claimed 4000 Euro in excess of his ‘entitlements’ .This man claimed in court he needed the money to buy food ,for his family. He was jailed, because he did not have the means to pay back 4000euro.
No one is defending ‘benefit fraud’-but with unemployment heading for 12%, and with whole communities and families, living at or below subsistence, surely some sense of proportion is needed. Governments can so easily scapegoat ‘the little guy’, while resuscitating, at enormous cost, the evil business model based on Greed, which has spawned unemployment and, in many cases, hunger and the repossession of HOMES.
Governments are not ‘solving’ this problem-they are a part of the problem, they are using ‘our money’ to sustain powerful institutions and corporate power –based relationships. This is profoundly immoral and undemocratic.
Money may not be the ROOT of all evil-but it’s misuse ,by governments, is the ROUTE to horrendous evil; the evil of an impoverished and divided society, and the destruction of families all over the world .

I really I have an intense dislike of being manipulated and lied to. The whole human caused global warming crisis is a fraud. The Mother of all hoaxes.

All of these same things I think about...It is very frustrating and anger provoking.
Itakins..... great article, and right on the money (haha ..pun intended). Read my Hub "Dear Candidate - Politics As Usual?" .... The bankers are guilty, but the politicians are as much so. Keep writing.... good work! JM
Love this one , what a hoot!
Money isn't everything but it sure does tend to keep the kids in touch! (I tip my hat to J. Paul Getty for that one)
Ah, Itakins, money is not the root nor route to anything. It is a very neutral energy that is a key piece in the complex learning process that we are all going through on this increasingly tiny planet. Human beings have advanced quite a bit in the last 2000 year since a person named Jesus walked among us, but we still have a long way to go until we live in such a way that everyone has what they need to live safely and comfortably. Yes, still a lot of selfishness and greed, but also many wonderful people doing wonderful things. Did you watch CNN heroes or see Bill and Amanda Gates talk about dedicating their lives and fortune to helping millions around the world? 99.9% of the 6.5 billion people in the world are good, loving human beings who just want to live a safe, comfortable life. It's the one tenth of one percent that are giving us the headaches. This WILL change in time, but maybe not in our time. We must keep the audacity of hope alive. That doesn't mean that we should not be justifiably angry, but that the anger must be well directed and effective like what you've written. Thanks. Great piece.
You're so right. I've paid cash for everything my whole life except for my college education. I think that's due to the influence of grandparents who went through the great depression here in the U.S. Down in the lower 48 states it's frightening to drive through once flourishing upper middle class neighborhoods that now seem like ghost towns.
A really good hub, in it you are saying what a lot of people are thinking or complaining about. I listen to the news on the radio and sometimes I find it hard to believe what I am hearing. The same people that have wrecked people financially are now bouncing back and asking for their bonus. Maybe we should allow the bonus money to be paid on the condition that they donate it to a charity. They could fund a hospice or to help families who become homeless, or set up clubs for the elderly. I have asked myself - how many politicians end up on the board of banks when they leave parliment? Thanks itakins, if this hub is a 'rant' then it is a very good one.
It's not money that's the root of/route to all evil; it's the LOVE of money. Often, that is an answer to someone's foolishness. In this case, it's a minor quibble. I hear Bank of America wants to pay back its bailout money early so they can avoid bailout limitations on giving a new CEO the standard unconscionable overpayment.
Meanwhile, congresscreatures have gerrymandered their districts and made running for office so prohibitively expensive that it is nearly impossible to throw the rascals out, and no one but other rascals can afford to run against them.
Years ago, I recall a corporate type objecting to being thrown in jail for his misdeeds like a common criminal. A common criminal is like the poor benefit fraudster in your example. The bankers et al. are super criminals who can steal more money in one power lunch than the fellow who merely knocks off gas stations can steal in a lifetime.
All I can say is, "Lord Jesus, come back quickly." Righteous indignation alone is not likely enough to change anything. So as I say, your lack of "love of" is a mere quibble. If enough of us can actually make our voices heard, maybe we can get some kind of divine intervention short of the end of the world.
The banking industry here in the US is one of the worst I have seen.
Christal
The banksters in the US are prospering as are the politicians who are in their pockets. It's an evil alliance. The common poeple don't have a chance under this system of CORRUPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great article, the 'Repo Man' is truly hideous, walking around the remains of some poor family's home, examining their shattered lives, with his callous self interest, blind commentary and glowing indifference. What a lesson it would be were he to find himself in a similar predicament, I wonder if his first concern would be to arrange everything he has lost, nice and neatly for the bank grabbers. Hardly. Very telling, the dogs, howling and crying in the background
I'm interested in what you have to say about Bill Gates and his wife. If they're putting money into educating women about their fertility, that's ok as far as I'm concerned, even if it requires a bit of gas guzzling. But if they are promoting abortion as a 'moral' solution to the problem of over population, then they are perpetrating a great evil on the people of the Third World. This needs further discussion, imho.
There are lots of questions I'd like answered, that's why I suggested a discussion. I have no problem whatsoever with helping women in the Third World to 'empower' themselves in all areas of their lives, including family size. (MInd you, put like that it sounds horrendously patronising). However, I'm not sure what and where we're talking about.
great article, thanks.. emotive subject, I think the Govt is more to blame for lack of control, they have become like the little princes of medieval Europe... eat drink and be buffoons..
Does the government realise the purpose to which the scanners are put? I'm all for advocating abstinence for teenage girls. I've seen at close quarters the physical as well as the psychological damage done because of early sexual activity.
I've no doubt that the oil companies are the biggest impediment to the development of alternative energy sources. I intend looking at that web site.
Very well written article with great photos by and intelligent young lady that seems to be able to do most anything very well indeed.
I stopped troubling myself over the woes of the world and stinkers that lust over money at the price of homeowners, farmers, and just plain good folks.
Unfortunately they have to wait until they become human before they appreciate the damage they do. Because everyone sooner or later tastes the grip of poverty unfortunately, and it is only until then that anyone really understands the damage they have done. Oh What the heck. God Bless you Dear Heart.
Itakins, Wonderful hub! It really is quite unfortunate! As you stated: "None of the bankers –to date – has been ‘held accountable’ (nice sterile word). If ever they are, it will no doubt be after years of expensive (taxpayer again ), and protracted investigations, into how this dreadful mess happened –or more likely-how" This is so true!
"For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil..." It is sad what things have come. So many lives impacted... Surely with the Lord there will be a day of reckoning! Thank you for sharing, In His Love & Blessings!
As one who deals with the homeless every single day through our ministry, I can tell you emphatically these people are not bums, liceheads or any of the other derogatory terms people use on them. I've even seen "self defined" Christians walk by them with their little judgmental looks of disapproval.
This overall nosedive we've recently been experiencing is nothing short of exposure. Consider the story of "The great whore" in the Book of Revelation. Now more than ever people are speaking up and are extremely distrustful of government, financial institutions and corporate backdoor deals. The entire approach has collectively received a "No Confidence" vote from the American people and by many abroad.
There will indeed be a day of reckoning. Those who steal a loaf of bread are put in jail while corporate thieves receive bailouts while they swing the finances to insure additional bailouts and the ability to kick up the bonuses they were embarrased out of giving even while receiving the handouts.
Right now, our collective ministries have 60-70 previously homeless veterans and nonvets we have to struggle to feed, shelter and clothe. Our socalled government won't assist us with one lousy dime of support. Nothing.
Socalled "Christians" who turn the other cheek. They stand around singing "Praise the Lord" and then laugh at the homeless saying they must've done something wrong to be there. We have a church of less than 120 active congregation members. It is in a poverty stricken area. Yet, these poor people support our programs.
He who guides provides, but I can tell you that if we had 1% of what these individuals were scamming and slamming, we could do much more.
We see it all the time. Showboaters who are all talk and do nothing. Nice Hub.
That's harsh! Not harsh enough, though.
Government and the wrong people with money is the root of all evil. They become corrupted they were corrupted before.

Hi iatkins...here in Canada I follow the banking industry very closely especially the quarterly reports on earnings. Banks are consistantly the highest earners. Is it any wonder when you consider they charge for every transaction. Basically it becomes a license to print money and yet they still cry fowl when the Government steps in a regulates them.
The question I have is who is regulating the Government, they invented the process and those who prosper on the backs of the people have learned the lesson well.
At the end of the day, pay cash for everything, if you can not well you do not need it, God has always provided and always will, there will be a day of accountability.
Blessings
